Overview
Attila’s clans raise riders who know a horse’s condition, the ground ahead and the danger of an enemy given room to move. Raiding and rivalry shape their lives on the steppes. A man’s standing depends on skills whose failures are often settled where the rest of his clan can see them.
The Imperium takes these riders into its armies as scouts and shock cavalry. They carry a familiar way of fighting onto worlds reached in ships they had no part in building. When the order to advance comes, the last distance is still covered on horseback, towards weapons capable of killing both mount and rider before either reaches the line.
