Overview
The steppes of Chogoris give a rider room to move and little shelter from weather that follows him for days. Its clans learn to judge distance through travel and war. Ground an Imperial clerk might describe as undeveloped supports a life with exacting demands of its own.
The White Scars draw recruits from that life. The Chapter has little need to replace it with hive labour or factory schedules when it already produces the judgement its warfare requires. The people of Chogoris continue their traditions under that distant approval, while selected sons leave for battles fought at speeds and distances their former mounts could never have carried them.
History
The clan societies and steppe warfare of Chogoris were preserved because they furnished recruits suited to the White Scars. The Chapter’s interest lay in the judgement that life produced. Replacing it with a conventional industrial order would have defeated part of the purpose of recruitment.
Military significance
White Scars warfare favours speed, encirclement and decisive attack. Chogorian aspirants bring experience of mobile fighting before they learn to practise it in power armour. The Chapter makes movement a means of controlling an engagement rather than simply arriving at it.
