Overview

Tallarn is a desert world of buried settlements, water discipline, dust, and broad killing horizons. Its people learn movement and concealment because stillness is a luxury the sands do not respect.

The world's culture prizes endurance, hospitality under law, and the ability to strike from terrain others misread as empty.

History

Tallarn's devastated environment shaped a survival society where mobility and resource control became political virtues. Over centuries those habits passed into military doctrine.

Imperial records treat the planet as an example of adaptation after ruin: a world made less habitable and therefore more useful to war.

Military significance

Tallarn Desert Raiders are associated with mobile warfare, armored thrusts, ambush, reconnaissance, and campaigns across open or arid ground. Their formations understand speed as preservation, not ornament.

They are valuable wherever static doctrine would become a grave. The desert taught them that a battle line may be less important than the angle from which it is refused.

M41 and M42 status

M41 · Pre-Rift

Desert world with armored raider traditions.

M41 status: Tallarn continues to provide mobile Guard formations and armored desert specialists to southern and distant theaters.

M42 · Era Indomitus

Overrun by daemons within the Rift, then relieved; its Raiders ride to southern fronts.

M42 status: Caught within the Great Rift, Tallarn was invaded by daemons and saved only when Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade reached it; afterwards numerous Desert Raiders regiments rode out with the Crusade. Rift-era convoy defense and unstable fronts make Tallarn mobility more valuable still, because the Imperium has fewer safe roads and more enemies on each one.
