Overview

Baal’s red deserts offer little to people already living with thirst and radiation. Beyond the fortresses, survival leaves its marks on the bodies of the inhabitants. The Blood Angels recruit from this hardship, taking some of those who endure it into a brotherhood capable of beauty as well as terrible violence.

The Chapter’s art and ceremony do not make its hunger harmless. Baal holds both parts of that inheritance, in the warriors guarding it and the people from whom their replacements are chosen. The later devastation of the system leaves the survivors with another task: rebuilding a home beyond the Rift, where the arrival of help is something to remember rather than assume.

History

Environmental ruin shaped the population from which the Blood Angels recruited. Their rituals preserved a noble identity alongside a curse their discipline could contain without ending. The later xenos devastation made the system’s survival a matter shared by the Chapter and its descendants.

Military significance

The Blood Angels and their successors look to Baal for an enduring centre of identity. Shock assaults and airborne warfare draw on aggressive strengths their warriors must also govern within themselves. Losing the world would threaten more than the installations on its surface.
