Overview
Catachan is a jungle death world whose biosphere appears to regard humanity as an infestation requiring correction. Predation, toxin, heat, and terrain make survival a continuous campaign.
Its settlements are hard, practical, and unsentimental. The planet teaches knife-work, suspicion, fieldcraft, and the understanding that the environment is an enemy command staff with infinite patience.
History
Catachan's human population endured by becoming more dangerous than many of the things hunting it. The Imperium, with characteristic thrift, turned that adaptation into a recruitment category.
The world has never been tamed. It has merely been harvested for those who can survive it.
Military significance
Catachan Jungle Fighters are specialists in ambush, close terrain, demolition, tracking, and survival under impossible ecological pressure. They are informal by parade standards and brutally competent by casualty standards.
Their military significance lies in turning hostile terrain into an ally. Many commanders dislike their manner. Fewer refuse their usefulness.
