Overview
On Nocturne, a wall may have to survive heat, ash and the movement of the ground beneath it. Craft matters because a failed joint or a poor repair can kill the people depending on it. Communities endure through work that cannot always be left to somebody else.
The Salamanders carry that sense of obligation into Imperial service. Their home produces warriors who know what protection requires from the person strong enough to offer it. There is no shortage of violence in the lesson. Nocturne’s fires make survival costly, and even its better instincts have to be practised in conditions where saving everyone is rarely possible.
History
Repeated disasters taught Nocturne’s communities to value sound construction and responsibility towards people who could not survive alone. The Salamanders made those habits part of a military inheritance. The world’s environmental dangers have continued alongside that service.
Military significance
Salamanders draw on endurance, craftsmanship and close-range firepower. Their concern for civilians gives practical force to obligations learned on Nocturne, though the circumstances of a campaign can make protection costly or incomplete. Their home supplies both artisans and recruits familiar with that burden.
