Overview
On Stygies VIII, an object condemned as alien heresy elsewhere may be carried into a laboratory under careful guard. The Xenarites want to know how it works. Their orthodox brethren have objections strong enough to require the research to remain secret.
The forge moon also supplies sophisticated weapons and armoured vehicles to the Imperium. Its usefulness complicates attempts to suppress it, and its masters have learned to conceal more than troop movements. A record can disappear as effectively as a force hidden from enemy sensors. Investigators arriving at Stygies have to establish what took place before deciding whom to punish for it.
History
Accounts connect Stygian interest in alien technology to Aeldari intervention during the Heresy. Later investigations and a Deathwatch assault gave the Xenarites further reason to conceal their work. Destroying incriminating records has helped preserve their activities without removing the suspicions surrounding them.
Military significance
Stygian forces use concealment and sensor interference to hide their movements. The forge moon manufactures weapons including the Vanquisher, giving other Imperial authorities reasons to keep drawing on its output even while objecting to its research.

Stygies remains an Imperial manufacturing centre. The Xenarites’ forbidden studies provoke internal conflict; they do not establish Chaos allegiance for the world’s population.
Imperial identity retained; local condition unverified
The sources retain an Imperial forge moon without a verified later destruction or siege outcome. Its position is disputed between a Pacificus–Solar boundary placement and an older Ultima reference.

The viewed Mechanicus map places Stygies west of Mars near the Pacificus–Solar border.
This later interpretation is retained. The older Ultima placement remains a source conflict; the lore does not establish a physical move that resolves it.
