Overview
Near the Hadex Anomaly, records of an event may disagree about when it happened for reasons that have nothing to do with an incompetent witness. Vessels become trapped and chronology is displaced around a phenomenon Imperial observers call a red hole. Its limits are not stable enough to make the name a useful explanation.
The danger extends into hostile systems around it. Imperial advances towards Hadex have met organised Chaos resistance, committing armies to a region difficult to measure and harder to secure. Stories attribute its creation to an immense sacrifice. The surviving evidence confirms the manifestation more readily than the story explaining it.
History
Deathwatch records place the anomaly’s manifestation in M40 during a planetary alignment. Allegations of a vast sacrificial ritual survive beside that account, without proof sufficient to establish the cause. The recorded appearance is firmer ground than the explanations attached to it.
Military significance
Chaos-held systems around Hadex obstruct Imperial reconquest. In the Acheros Salient, Stigmartus resistance repeatedly meets advances towards the anomaly, sustaining the Cellebos war. Armies trying to reach the phenomenon must first fight forces with a practical interest in keeping them away.

Hadex already affects the Reach before the Great Rift, shaping Deathwatch concerns and the campaigns of the Achilus Crusade.
