Overview

A ship entering the Nachmund Gauntlet is taking one of the passages through the Great Rift that may still carry it to the other side. The space around Vigilus is comparatively stable. That is a judgement about the warp, and offers the crew very little assurance about the fleets waiting along the route.

The divided Imperium needs the crossing. Its enemies understand the need and attack the worlds that support it. Convoys depend on defenders holding ports and approaches long enough to let them through. On a transport waiting for clearance, the passengers may hear that the passage remains open while watching their departure slip further down the schedule.

History

The opening of the Cicatrix Maledictum made the passage exceptionally important. Fighting for Vigilus drew several enemies against Imperial defenders. Calgar’s confrontation with Abaddon secured a reprieve, leaving the broader contest over transit unfinished.

Military significance

Haarken Worldclaimer’s later offensives carry the fighting towards Sangua Terra and the Sanctus Wall. Spaceports, fortified systems and routes for reinforcement become objectives in a campaign to control who can cross. Holding one position does not settle the security of the next approach.

M41 and M42 status

M41 · Pre-Rift

Post-Rift corridor not yet present.

The nearby worlds already exist, but their role as a connection between Sanctus and Nihilus begins with the Great Rift. The corridor is a consequence of that division.

M42 · Era Indomitus

Contested crossing; Sanctus approaches under Chaos assault.

Chaos assaults threaten Sangua Terra and the Sanctus Wall. Imperial defenders continue to contest the approaches, with access changing as the fighting develops.

Timeline

The crossing gains its defining strategic role.

Imperial forces fight to retain access.

Haarken attacks the Sanctus approaches.

Chart placement and sources

Provisional placement

The official Battle Honours 2024 map shows the passage southwest from Vigilus toward the Cadia side of the Rift.

The point follows that opening in the existing chart. The circle is not the corridor's width or boundary; M41 remains a historical regional reference before the Rift.

Source-reviewed regional estimate in the existing 0–1000 chart. The retained galaxy anchors, exact point and any ring size are not surveyed coordinates or territorial boundaries.
