Overview
Beyond the Koronus Passage, an Imperial warrant can take a ship farther than Imperial law can reliably protect it. Rogue Traders cross into the Expanse looking for profitable contact, lost holdings and things that can be claimed before a rival finds them. Footfall receives their ships and their accounts of what lies beyond.
Those accounts do not always agree. Explorers exaggerate, conceal losses or fail to return with the evidence. Among alien domains and scattered human settlements, authority belongs to whoever can enforce it locally. A colony abandoned by its patron may retain all the papers establishing its place in the Imperium without seeing another Imperial vessel.
History
Port Wander became a naval base on the approaches to the Expanse. Purity Lathimon’s charting of the Maw opened a navigable passage through the storms, and Footfall developed beyond it as a staging point. Much of the further history survives through explorers with interests in how their discoveries are remembered.
Military significance
Rogue Trader fleets, private troops and local rulers conduct much of the region’s warfare. Control of access can outweigh the strength held within an isolated domain. The official chronicle itself cautions that expedition accounts may be exaggerated or false; reports of conquest require the same care as reports of discovery.
M41 and M42 status
Fragmented frontier of Rogue Trader activity.
The Koronus Passage connects Calixis to a frontier of exploration, exploitation and conflict. Imperial authority remains concentrated in scattered holdings rather than applied evenly across the region.
Comprehensive post-Rift regional fate unconfirmed.
The regional accounts chiefly concern M41. They do not establish the later fortunes of every ruler, colony or route after the Great Rift.

Chart placement and sources
Provisional placement
The official FFG map establishes the passage from Port Wander toward Footfall; indexed galactic prose places Koronus northeast of Calixis.
The local map is spinward-up and coreward-right. Its route topology does not establish a surveyed galaxy centre, a circular border or the fate of every realm in M42.
Source-reviewed regional estimate in the existing 0–1000 chart. The retained galaxy anchors, exact point and any ring size are not surveyed coordinates or territorial boundaries.
