Overview
Vigilus has warehouses worth besieging and factories whose output travels far beyond the planet. Before the Great Rift, its exports and void-shield technology already made it a valuable hive world. The galaxy’s division brought a much heavier burden to its approaches.
In the Rift era, ships crossing the Nachmund region depend on ground other people are fighting to take. Vigilus has become a place where an orbital battery or a working supply depot can affect worlds far away. Its inhabitants live inside those objectives. When defenders speak of holding the passage, they are also deciding which districts must bear the next attack.
History
The Great Rift turned Vigilus’s useful position into a critical one. Passage that had once served ordinary regional needs became essential to movement through the divided Imperium. Invasion and relief followed, with each success leaving the larger struggle unfinished.
Military significance
Guard formations, Astartes, Mechanicus forces and fleets commit to Vigilus because control of its approaches affects transit through the Nachmund region. The world’s defences must support that traffic while fighting for their own survival. A convoy can depend on a battle its passengers know only as a delay.
M41 and M42 status
