Overview

On the Chemos Fulgrim first knew, mining and scarcity had narrowed life to the next requirement of production. Keeping the machinery and population working left little room for anything else. His reforms brought a recovery large enough to permit art and learning alongside the labour.

The Emperor’s Children drew recruits from that revived world. Its people helped restore the Legion’s strength, and its institutions served the Great Crusade. When loyalist forces devastated Chemos near the end of the Heresy, they destroyed more than a supply base. The world that had once shown its inhabitants a life beyond exhaustion became quarantined remains.

History

Fulgrim restored production on Chemos and created room for art and learning. Contact with the Emperor gave the weakened Third Legion its primarch and a recruiting base. The world subsequently served administrative and communications functions within the Aquitaine sector.

Military significance

Chemos supplied people who helped replenish the Emperor’s Children after their early losses. The Legion kept a stronghold at Callax. Loyalist forces devastated the world during the closing Heresy while much of the Legion fought its rebellion elsewhere.

M41 and M42 status

M41 · Pre-Rift

Destroyed; quarantined remains

Chemos is destroyed and its remains quarantined. The surviving historical connection to the Legion does not establish continued industry, a civilian state or an intact fortress.

M42 · Era Indomitus

Destroyed; no restoration established

No restoration is recorded. Fulgrim’s followers occupy later domains elsewhere; their origin on Chemos does not make its remains a functioning modern capital.

Timeline

Fulgrim reforms the exhausted mining society.

Chemos supplies recruits to the recovering Third Legion.

Loyalist forces destroy Chemos; its remains are later quarantined.

Chart placement and sources

Provisional placement

The published Emperor's Children extract identifies Ultima/Coreward; the Axandria map places Chemos southeast of Prospero.

The retained point is a broad coreward estimate. The source inset does not establish an exact coordinate fit.

Source-reviewed regional estimate in the existing 0–1000 chart. The retained galaxy anchors, exact point and any ring size are not surveyed coordinates or territorial boundaries.
