Overview
Nostramo’s mineral wealth passed upwards through a society whose lower levels lived in pollution and dimness. Powerful interests had reason to keep the industry running and little reason to make its people secure. Curze imposed his own order through terror, then left a world that soon returned to the rule of criminals.
Men from that society entered the Night Lords and carried its habits into the Legion. Curze eventually returned to order Nostramo’s destruction. The bombardment shattered the home he had once claimed to discipline. Its language and gang customs survived among his warriors, long after there was no intact city left in which to speak them.
History
Curze enforced order by personal terror before leaving with the Great Crusade. Criminal power returned, and increasingly brutal recruits entered his Legion. The official account places this decline alongside Curze’s decisions rather than assigning the Night Lords’ conduct entirely to the people he had ruled.
Military significance
Curze ordered his fleet to destroy Nostramo on his return. The bombardment shattered the recruiting world. Nostraman customs and language continued in the Legion, allowing much of the identity he condemned to survive among the warriors carrying out his orders.
