Overview
Before the siege of Vervunhive, the cities of Verghast had fought over wealth and industrial advantage. Ferrozoica and Vannick were neighbouring powers in a rivalry people could recognise. Corruption gave one of those rivals a purpose far beyond the old disputes.
Ferrozoica’s forces came to destroy the other hives. Atomic attack ended Vannick; Vervunhive’s inhabitants had to defend their streets alongside the Imperial troops sent to help them. Victory left survivors with a city they could no longer inhabit as before. The world continued, but many of the people who had kept it working had to leave what remained of their homes.
History
Asphodel corrupted Ferrozoica and directed its strength against the neighbouring hives. Atomic attack destroyed Vannick. Vervunhive endured a siege that brought Imperial reinforcements into a struggle already consuming the lives of its inhabitants. The defence prevailed after damage too extensive to undo by declaring the city safe.
Military significance
Gaunt’s Ghosts fought beside other Imperial troops and Vervunhive’s defenders. Gaunt led the attack that killed Asphodel. Local industrial rivalry had become a war against forces supplied by a hive the enemy already controlled.
M41 and M42 status
War-damaged hive world; Vervunhive reconstruction recorded
Survivors dispersed after Vervunhive’s siege, with limited reconstruction recorded later. Verghast continued as a damaged Imperial world, while displaced inhabitants had to find lives beyond the cities they had defended.
Later planetary condition unverified
The cited material concerns the M41 crusade. Later government, population and occupation are unverified. The earlier rebuilding cannot be assumed to establish the world’s condition after the Great Rift.

Provisional placement
The viewed second-edition limited-edition Sabbat Worlds map places Verghast in the crusade region.
The local map uses rimward orientation; no numeric fit to the galaxy is established. Its hive cities are locations on one planet.
Source-reviewed regional estimate in the existing 0–1000 chart. The retained galaxy anchors, exact point and any ring size are not surveyed coordinates or territorial boundaries.
