Overview

The nebulae of the Damocles Gulf lie across the approaches between Imperial territory and the core T’au septs. Fleets cross the region to negotiate, trade or invade, depending on the orders carried aboard them. The natural hazards make each kind of passage a calculation.

Crusades and expansion campaigns have made the gulf familiar to both powers without settling who can move through it safely. Later fighting around Agrellan added a vast conflagration to the routes already in contention. A fleet can have the strength to fight at its destination and still find the space required to reach it more dangerous than its planners allowed.

History

Imperial forces crossed the gulf during the Damocles Crusade. T’au expansion resumed after their withdrawal, and Farsight established independent holdings on the Imperial side. Later fighting around Agrellan and Prefectia renewed the conflict. The Second Agrellan Campaign left a conflagration across the gulf that further obstructed movement.

Military significance

Passages through the region carry commerce, delegations and invasion fleets between rival powers. During the Arks of Omen, Farsight also fights orks and Chaos in the wider theatre. The frontier’s hazards serve none of its inhabitants exclusively.

M41 and M42 status

M41 · Pre-Rift

Contested nebular frontier; devastated by late-era warfare.

The gulf is crossed by crusades and expansion fleets. Late-era warfare adds devastating conditions around Agrellan to a frontier already difficult to traverse.

M42 · Era Indomitus

Active wider campaign theatre; precise conditions vary.

The wider gulf remains an active theatre during the Arks of Omen. The cited accounts do not establish the conflagration’s exact extent or persistence, or the condition of every route.

Timeline

Chart placement and sources

Provisional placement

The viewed sixth-edition T'au map shows the Damocles Gulf as a diagonal band above-left of the core on the page.

The chosen point represents the region. Its circular ring does not trace the gulf or establish a political border.

Sixth-edition map reproduction, predating the Great Rift. Page-up is treated as chart-up for a consistent schematic layout; the source gives no north arrow. Galactic orientation and physical scale remain unverified. Regional symbols are representative points, not measured centres or borders.
